Arsenal 3–0 Manchester City
Arsenal made the perfect start to the new season by beating Manchester City 3–0 to lift the FA Community Shield at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. The victory also spoiled Enzo Maresca’s competitive debut as Manchester City manager following Pep Guardiola’s departure.
Mikel Arteta’s side took control of the game in the first half, going into the break with a comfortable 2–0 lead before adding a third shortly after the restart.
Arsenal struck within the opening minute when Riccardo Calafiori finished off a precise pass from youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly to break through City’s defence. The goal was reportedly the fastest scored in the Community Shield since 1968.
The Gunners doubled their advantage in the 27th minute. Martin Ødegaard delivered a dangerous cross into the box, and Christos Tzolis produced a clever headed pass before Kai Havertz rose highest to head the ball into the net.
Arsenal continued to dominate after the interval and put the result beyond doubt in the 48th minute. Ødegaard capitalised on confusion in the City defence to score Arsenal’s third goal and complete an impressive 3–0 victory.
The triumph marked Arsenal’s 18th Community Shield title, putting them behind only Manchester United, who have won the competition 21 times.
The performance at the Principality Stadium also sent an early warning to Arsenal’s Premier League rivals. Among the standout performers were two of the club’s new arrivals, with £75 million signing Bruno Guimarães and £34 million winger Christos Tzolis making a strong impression.
Tzolis, in particular, caught the eye with an energetic display and played a key role in both of Arsenal’s first-half goals.
Manchester City, meanwhile, struggled to find their rhythm. Their £116 million new signing Elliott Anderson failed to make a significant impact, while star striker Erling Haaland was also unable to influence the game and spent much of the match looking a shadow of his usual self.
For Arsenal, it was an emphatic statement of intent—and an ideal way to begin the new campaign with silverware already in the cabinet.
