Kane scored 61 goals in all competitions for Bayern Munich last season, helping the club win both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal. No player in Europe’s top five leagues scored more goals than the England international during the campaign.
He also enjoyed a strong World Cup with England, scoring six goals in seven matches. England reached the semi-finals but ultimately failed to lift the trophy. With several other leading Ballon d’Or contenders also missing out on major international or Champions League success, Kane’s chances of winning the award have grown stronger.
However, Kane insists the final result is out of his hands and that he cannot control the votes or the media discussion surrounding the award.
“The Ballon d’Or is probably the biggest individual award you can win, but it’s not in my hands. I’ve done what I needed to do on the pitch and performed to the best of my ability,” Kane said.
Having finished as the Bundesliga’s top scorer in each of his first three seasons at Bayern, Kane’s priority now is to maintain that consistency and continue scoring in the new campaign.
The Ballon d’Or winner will be announced in October. Until then, Kane appears more interested in helping Bayern achieve further success with the team than worrying about another individual honour.
