Hooghly Rural Police Superintendent Kunwar Bhushan Singh said Porel was arrested from Emami City, located within the jurisdiction of Kolkata’s Dum Dum police station.
According to the complaint filed with the police, Porel had been in a relationship with the woman for around three years. However, their relationship reportedly began to deteriorate last year, after which Porel allegedly reduced communication with her.
The woman alleged that Porel had a physical relationship with her after promising to marry her, but later refused to go ahead with the marriage.
She further alleged that Porel had unlawfully confined her and subjected her to mental abuse, including depriving her of food. The complaint also accused him of physically assaulting her. According to the woman, the alleged abuse left her seriously ill and affected her ability to walk normally, eventually forcing her to seek medical treatment at a hospital.
The woman first submitted a written complaint to the police in June. After the matter reached the court, the Calcutta High Court directed the police to arrest Porel. Police said an investigation was launched after the complaint was formally registered.
Porel had previously denied all the allegations made against him.
The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter has been part of the Delhi Capitals squad in the IPL since 2023. At the domestic level, he represents Bengal and has also been associated with India A, accompanying the team on tours of the United Kingdom and Australia.
Porel made his first-class debut during the 2021–22 season. He has so far played 32 first-class matches and 23 List A matches.
