However, a dramatic new update has emerged. According to AS journalist Marco Ruiz, Vinícius is now prioritizing staying at Real Madrid, and the club’s board shares the same view.
The report also states that Real Madrid have firmly dismissed any suggestion that Vinícius could leave, even while working on a deal to sign highly rated Ivory Coast youngster Yan Diomande. Interestingly, Diomande and Vinícius are represented by the same agent.
With Vinícius' current contract set to expire in 2027, several of Europe’s biggest clubs have been closely monitoring his situation. Arsenal made an initial approach, while Liverpool have reportedly been keeping an eye on the possibility of signing the Brazilian on a free transfer in 2027. Despite that interest, Vinícius’ priority remains extending his stay at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Talks over a new contract are expected to resume as soon as the Brazilian returns from his vacation. Vinícius is set to meet with club officials to discuss his role under Portuguese manager José Mourinho’s new project, as well as the financial package he believes reflects his status as one of the world’s elite players.
According to the report, Mourinho has no intention of allowing Vinícius to leave. The Portuguese coach is planning to build a devastating attacking trio featuring Kylian Mbappé, Yan Diomande, and Vinícius Júnior, with Jude Bellingham playing the creative role behind them.
Negotiations over a contract extension had already made significant progress before stalling after the Club World Cup. Vinícius reportedly lowered his salary demands, while Real Madrid improved their offer. However, the two sides ultimately stood firm on their respective positions, preventing an agreement from being finalized.
The Brazilian winger is currently seeking a net annual salary of around €20 million after tax. Under the contract he signed in 2022, he currently earns an average of €15 million per season, along with a €2 million bonus that was added after winning FIFA’s The Best award.
Despite playing a key role in Real Madrid’s two UEFA Champions League triumphs over the past two seasons, Vinícius reportedly felt somewhat undervalued after the club was linked with players such as Julián Álvarez and Michael Olise. Even so, he has put those frustrations behind him and still sees the Santiago Bernabéu as his long-term home.
For their part, Real Madrid view renewing Vinícius’ contract as the most important piece of business they can complete during this transfer window.
