Real Madrid Legend Ranks Yamal Ahead of Messi

Lamine Yamal praised by Steve McManaman as better than teenage Messi and Michael Owen
Real Madrid and Liverpool former winger Steve McManaman has made an extraordinary comment about Barcelona’s young star Lamine Yamal. According to him, the level of football Yamal is playing at the age of 17 is even better than what Lionel Messi or Michael Owen showed during their teenage years.

Speaking in an interview with Sport, McManaman said, “I think he is already a global star. There is no doubt about that. But he will improve even further. He really is an exceptional player.”

Calling Yamal the best young talent at this age, the former England international said, “He is the best young star we have seen as a 16- or 17-year-old player. I am comparing him with 17-year-old Michael Owen and 17- or 18-year-old Messi. In my opinion, Lamine is ahead of them.”

However, McManaman also warned about the excessive pressure being placed on the young star. He said, “Hopefully, he stays away from any serious injuries. Young players like Gavi and Pedri have also suffered major injuries because of playing too much. It is very difficult for someone so young to become a key player for the team and play too many matches.”

McManaman also praised Ronald Araújo, who is playing for Liverpool on loan from Barcelona. He expressed his hope that the defender will be highly successful in the Premier League.
