Carse was arrested outside a bar in Derby last month following Durham’s County Championship win, after allegedly being involved in drunken and disorderly behaviour. He was seen being taken away by police in handcuffs before being released later.
Following the incident, the cricket regulator launched an investigation into Carse’s conduct. Derbyshire Police have also confirmed that they are investigating an alleged assault that took place that night. However, it remains unclear whether Carse has any connection to the assault investigation.
ECB chairman Richard Thompson was also cautious when asked about the matter during the second Test. “The cricket regulator is involved in a recent incident and there is potentially a criminal investigation ongoing,” he said. “So I don’t want to say anything that could potentially prejudice any investigation.”
Carse did feature for Durham last week in the County Championship, taking four wickets in their 10-wicket victory over Gloucestershire. However, he was left out of the side for their match against Northamptonshire.
Durham said his absence was part of a pre-agreed workload management plan with the ECB.
Sonny Baker, who replaced Carse in the England squad for the second Test, remains in the squad for the third match as well. The only other change sees Matt Fisher dropped, leaving England with a 15-man squad for the third Test at Edgbaston.
The third Test will begin at Edgbaston next Wednesday. England currently lead the series 2-0 after a dominant victory at Lord’s and will be aiming for their first Test series whitewash since July 2024.
Interim head coach Marcus Trescothick has also hinted that England could name an unchanged XI for the third Test.
Pakistan, meanwhile, have made significant changes ahead of the match. Seven players have been sent home, while another seven have been brought into the squad. Five of the new additions are still waiting to make their Test debuts.
