Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan could also face disciplinary action over the matter.
Geo Super reported that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is preparing to form a high-level investigation committee to look into Imam’s case. The batter, who was previously accused of faking an injury, could potentially face a suspension of one to two years.
The PCB is also reportedly taking a strict stance over Rizwan’s disciplinary conduct, with the board considering significant action against him in the future.
Rizwan could be questioned by the PCB within the next few days. His chances of being selected for any Pakistan squad in the near future are also believed to be quite slim.
Both Imam and Rizwan were released from Pakistan’s Test squad as part of a major reshuffle ahead of the third and final Test against England.
Imam suffered a low-grade calf strain in his left leg while fielding on the opening day of the Lord’s Test. As a result, he was unable to bat in Pakistan’s first innings the following day. Pakistan were bowled out for just 110 in reply to England’s 290.
He was also unable to bat in the second innings. Chasing 389 for victory, Pakistan were dismissed for 194, losing the Test as well as the series.
According to reports in the Pakistani media, the incident has prompted the PCB to launch a high-level investigation into the nature of Imam’s calf injury. The development has also brought an earlier controversy involving the batter back into the spotlight, relating to Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand.
Geo Super, citing its sources, reported that a previous PCB investigation had held Imam responsible for allegedly faking an injury during that tour.
The incident reportedly took place on March 28, 2025, when a ball struck Imam’s right big toe during an indoor net session.
The investigation reportedly concluded that Imam had exaggerated or misrepresented his injury symptoms, misleading the medical team. He was also accused of deliberately making himself unavailable or unfit to play in the opening ODI of the series.
